Drew McIntyre and CM Punk’s feud was truly one for the ages, as it elevated both competitors. However, Punk recently claimed that he elevates all of his opponents and now McIntyre has responded to Punk’s claim.
While speaking to Sports Illustrated, Drew McIntyre was asked about CM Punk claiming he elevated his opponents. He said that the public probably enjoyed his feud with Punk more than anything else Punk has done.
McIntyre found Punk’s claim that he elevates everyone interesting, pointing out that Punk was actually injured and on the sidelines for half their rivalry. Drew felt it was he who elevated the feud, elevated Punk, and put him back into a position he hadn’t been in since his last WWE run.
McIntyre said Punk was just playing at being CM Punk until he worked with him, and even now, when he watches, it looks like Punk is back to just playing the part, like he actually misses Drew.
McIntyre stated that it takes the right opponent to truly elevate a feud and with Punk, it was personal on both sides. He believed that gave it all real weight. In his view he didn’t just match what Punk brought; he far outdid it, which he said was proven by all the awards he picked up in 2024.
“Um, I mean, the public certainly enjoyed it more than probably anything I’ve ever done. Um, Punk’s quote is interesting. He elevates everybody even though he was on his arse injured for half of the feud. Drew McIntyre elevated that feud. Drew McIntyre elevated Punk and put me in the position that he’s not been in since the last time he was in WWE. He was just playing CM Punk and he finally became CM Punk with me. And every time I turn it on now, he looks like he’s playing CM Punk again. So, he looks like he misses Drew McIntyre.
But, you know, you got to have the right opponent to elevate the feud. And CM Punk was somebody that I have personal feelings about. His personal feelings about me. It all came from a real place. So yeah, I gave—actually I didn’t give as good as I got. I gave better than I got by freaking far. That’s why I won every award that was given out in 2024.”
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk had a brilliant feud that culminated in a brutal Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood 2024, where Punk won. Therefore, we’ll have to see if Drew McIntyre and CM Punk will revisit their feud in the future as fans would love that.
