CM Punk’s controversial line about Roman Reigns’ late father continues to spark reactions across the wrestling world — and now Drew McIntyre has weighed in on the situation.
While speaking to Complex Graps, McIntyre addressed the viral Raw moment and explained that promos like Punk’s are often designed to get inside an opponent’s head. Rather than criticizing the line, McIntyre suggested it was simply part of wrestling’s psychological warfare.
“I mean, I can’t make comments about things said on the microphone to try and get into people’s heads. I’ve said the worst things imaginable to people. Punk is trying to get into Roman’s head by saying the worst thing imaginable.”
McIntyre also predicted that Reigns is unlikely to let the comment slide quietly. In his view, the feud may soon escalate beyond words. Even though McIntyre admitted it “kills” him to say it, he acknowledged that both Punk and Reigns are elite performers when feuds turn physical.
“So I imagine Roman is going to come back next week and punch Punk in the face. I think that’s what they need — not to talk each other to death, but to start throwing bombs. It kills me to say it, but I know how good Punk and Roman are. So when they start throwing bombs, it’s going to be interesting.”
McIntyre also pointed out that Reigns has a history of responding aggressively when things become personal, referencing their own rivalry, where Reigns made McIntyre’s life a living hell. But despite weighing in on the drama, McIntyre made it clear that his focus remains on his own path.
“If he wants to get personal, I know what Roman can do when it gets personal. I’ve said horrible things about Roman in the past, and he made my life hell for years. I’m curious to see the fallout of that. I won’t watch it live — I’ll watch it in a clip. I’m focused on one thing, and that’s SmackDown.”
The comments come after Punk’s Raw promo referencing WWE Hall of Famer Sika lead to controversy and drew a strong reaction from members of the Anoa’i family, including Zilla Fatu and Nia Jax. And if McIntyre’s prediction is right, the next chapter in the Punk vs. Reigns rivalry may not be settled with words at all — it could start with fists flying on the road to WrestleMania.
