Drew McIntyre knows fans have opinions about his rivalry with Damian Priest—and he’s not here for the complaints.

During his Guerilla Position: Beyond the Ring interview, McIntyre addressed the backlash from fans who questioned the direction of his storyline with the current World Heavyweight Champion.

McIntyre didn’t hold back when it came to responding to criticism of WWE’s creative process. He pointed out that the industry isn’t built on rigid plans—and fans should know that by now.

“This is WWE. If you know anything about watching the show, you know things are not always as they seem.”

“If you know anything about being backstage — things change every freaking second.”

“That’s just the nature of the industry… but this [storyline] is to me the most logical story.”

Rather than chase the title year-round, McIntyre said his goal is to make sure the story feels real to him—because if it does, fans will believe it too.

“These days my mindset is — what’s the best story? Yeah, I’d love to fight for the title every year… but aside from a couple of guys, that generally doesn’t happen.”

“As long as I’ve got a story I can invest in personally and make real to me, that’s what matters. Because if I can make it real to me, it’ll be real to the fans.”

McIntyre then broke down exactly why he’s fed up with Priest, calling out the champion for repeatedly benefiting from McIntyre’s setbacks throughout the year.

“Turns out the entire time I’ve been focused so much on this particular goal, there’s been this one other guy at the side who just keeps capitalizing every single time I’ve been screwed over.”

“One guy slid in, picked the bones, and like had the best year of his entire career at my expense. And it finally all came to a head.”

“It became clear — this guy has capitalized on me all year. He doesn’t know how else to succeed unless it’s at my expense.”

“Even without a title — as soon as my back’s turned, he’s… ‘I don’t know how to win for myself, I don’t know how to be on top unless it’s to do with Drew McIntyre.’”

Now, the former WWE Champion says it’s time for Priest to prove if he can stand on his own—or keep taking shortcuts.

“Every time my back’s turned, he picks the bones… now I’ve got no choice but to put Priest in the dirt.”

“Tough guy keeps getting up every week. Every time I put him down, I’ll keep putting him down.”

“He’s had his opportunity — at my expense, of course. But from what I saw — aside from the crap with me — he knocked it out the park. He deserves a shot at the top… but it’s not going to be at my expense.”

“Now he’s going to get his chance to really prove it… cuz I’ve got nothing else to do now except keep beating his ass.”

Drew McIntyre isn’t backing down, and he sure as hell isn’t here for internet critics trying to rewrite his story. He’s made it clear this beef with Priest is personal, real, and far from finished. If fans don’t like it, he’s not losing sleep—he’s too busy preparing to “put Priest in the dirt” once and for all.
