The 2026 Royal Rumble premium live event included a lot of shocking moments. As the fallout starts to sort itself out, we have heard from Drew McIntyre on why he made a controversial decision during the Men’s Royal Rumble match.
Drew McIntyre showed up during the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble match, and he nailed Cody Rhodes with a blind sided Claymore Kick to eliminate the American Nightmare. That was not what Cody Rhodes planned for the night at all, and now we know why Drew did this.
During the post-show after the Royal Rumble, Drew McIntyre explained why he screwed Cody Rhodes in the 2026 Royal Rumble match.
"Why not? I'm a good guy. I never lie. Listen to them, they get it. If you don't wrong me, if you don't screw me time and time again, I'll be your best friend. But if you wrong me, if you constantly cost me the championship, get on my bad side, I'll be the worst enemy you've ever had. I heard someone say that Cody Rhodes is at his absolute best when he's in chase mode, but I'm at my best when he's holding the championship. Cody, I will make your life a living hell. I was fine with anyone winning the Rumble, just not you."
Drew McIntyre is very sure of himself, especially after shutting down Sami Zayn in Saudi Arabia. He wasn’t finished with the night, because he had to stop Cody Rhodes from winning the match.
Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre may be on a collision course at this point. We will have to see how the road to WrestleMania 42 pans out. At this point, the Royal Rumble has left a lot of possibilities on the table.
