WWE has a lot of things planned for 2026, and this Friday’s episode of SmackDown will be a can’t miss event. Drew McIntyre has big plans to walk out as the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
Drew McIntyre isn’t framing this Friday as just another title match. He’s framing it as a moment that defines who he is. On January 9, 2026, WWE SmackDown will feature a 3 Stages of Hell match between McIntyre and Cody Rhodes. This will cap off a feud that’s been building since September 2025.
In a social media promo ahead of the match, Drew McIntyre made it clear that he sees Rhodes as stability at the top. He sees himself as the force meant to disrupt it.
“It’s now or never. You can’t have a new era unless there is change at the top, or it’s just really the same thing. Everyone seems fine with that, Cody at the top, protect him all the time, protect their golden boy because he’s safe. I’m not safe, I’m dangerous. That’s the kind of era I want to bring. Unpredictably."
"Cody did a hell of a job as champ, especially to finish this story, but it’s the same. We need change. Not just for the company but for the fans. We need change for you Cody. I’ve broken you mentally. I’ve broken you physically. I’m sending you to the dark whether you realize it or not. You are the Batman, but I’m Bane."
"If you can climb out of that dark hole when I beat you, and take everything from you, you’re gonna return a better Cody Rhodes than ever before. It will enable someone like me, someone in the position I’m in right now. I feel unbeatable. If I am defeated Friday, then I don’t know who the hell I am.”
Drew McIntyre has already revealed what he has in store for the 3 Stages of Hell match. A traditional wrestling match will be followed by falls count anywhere, and finally a cage match. Then he put the cherry on top by setting a photo of Dusty Rhodes on fire.
SmackDown will take place in Berlin, Germany, at the Uber Arena, and McIntyre has made it clear he believes the night ends with change, one way or another. This could be a historic night, and McIntyre plans on making the most of it.
