Drew McIntyre has now revealed that he is finally considering starting a family with his wife.
While speaking on the Impaulsive podcast, Drew McIntyre talked about having kids and said it’s something he and his partner have discussed. With WWE’s schedule now being easier to manage, he’s starting to feel like it might finally be the right time.
McIntyre shared that he’s spent most of his career constantly traveling and fully focused on wrestling. To succeed he had to give up certain things, like spending time with his family, which has always meant a lot to him. In the past, he was on the road three or four days a week, and it was even harder when he first started.
“Uh, yeah. I mean, we’ve talked about it. The way the schedule is now is certainly the first time I’ve started thinking, okay, maybe we’re getting close to time. I’ve always wrestled. I’ve always been on the road. I knew I’d have to sacrifice things I want in life if I wanted to take this as far as I could. Being away from my family, who are so important to me, was just part of the job for so long.”
Drew McIntyre remembered having a talk with Nick Khan during a hard time in his life after his family went through some tragedies. He asked for more time off and was told the schedule would slow down. That turned out to be true. WWE’s current schedule now allows wrestlers more time to rest and be with their families.
Because of that, the Scottish Warrior feels like he could now be a hands-on dad. He doesn’t want to be away from his future child, only seeing them on FaceTime. He wants to be there in person for the special moments. People have also told him it’s better to have kids when you’re younger so you can enjoy more time with them as they grow up.
Even though he knows he’ll be an older dad, McIntyre said he chose to focus on his career first. He knows how committed he gets to his goals and doesn’t regret the choices he’s made.
“We used to be on the road 3 to 4 days a week every single week. And it used to be even crazier when I first started. I remember having a conversation with Nick K. He told me, ‘It’s going to slow down, I promise.’
After a couple of family tragedies, I was like, I need more time off to be with my family. And they guaranteed me it was slowing down. Wrestling’s changing. And sure enough, now the way the schedule is, it’s great—not just for keeping our bodies together, but also for keeping our families together.
And now I can see a world where, if I had a kid—when I have a kid—I could actually be present when they’re a baby. I don’t want to be on the road watching them grow up on FaceTime. I want to be a present dad.
A lot of people tell me, you know, ‘Get it done earlier so you’re younger and you have more quality time.’ It’s good to have the kid when you’re young, so when they’re older, you’re still young enough to be there for all the important moments. So yeah, I’ll be an older dad, but it’s been a conscious decision to put everything into my career. And I know how my brain works—I know how laser-focused I get.”
We will have to wait and see when The Scottish Warrior will take time off to start a family, as it’s clear he is more than ready to become a father and fans believe he will be an amazing dad.
