Cody Rhodes winning the Undisputed WWE Championship on the March 6 episode of WWE SmackDown was meant to be a defining moment on the road to WrestleMania 42. Instead, the fallout has sparked a wave of backlash across social media — and now Drew McIntyre has finally weighed in.
After staying silent immediately following his loss, McIntyre resurfaced online the next day with a very short response that appears to acknowledge the reaction to the title change. McIntyre took to Twitter and posted a single emoji in his first social media activity since dropping the championship. He fired off a post, “👎🏻”
The post comes as the reaction to Cody Rhodes reclaiming the Undisputed WWE Championship continues to build online. The video of Rhodes defeating McIntyre on SmackDown — which aired from the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon — has quickly turned into one of the most disliked WWE uploads of the year on YouTube.
At the time of writing, the full match clip has accumulated more than 119,000 dislikes compared to roughly 28,000 likes on WWE’s official channel, showing a strong negative reaction from viewers.
The chaotic main event saw Rhodes defeat McIntyre after a long back-and-forth battle that included multiple referee bumps. McIntyre attempted to use a steel chair to maintain control of the championship before the situation shifted when Jacob Fatu appeared and stopped him. That distraction allowed Rhodes to hit a Cody Cutter followed by Cross Rhodes to secure the three-count and regain the title.
The reaction online has been fueled by multiple factors, including frustration from fans who hoped McIntyre would enter WrestleMania 42 as champion after his recent victory in a brutal Three Stages of Hell match earlier this year. Others have pointed to the quick turnaround in the title picture after McIntyre ended Rhodes’ 159-day second reign at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLI, only for Rhodes to regain the championship less than two months later.
Despite the backlash, the title change has now locked in the WrestleMania 42 direction. Rhodes is set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton in Las Vegas after Orton won the 2026 Men’s Elimination Chamber match and later attacked Rhodes with an RKO.
McIntyre’s brief social media post adds another layer to the conversation surrounding the title change, especially as fans continue debating the booking decision online.
