Drew McIntyre didn’t hold back when the conversation turned to CM Punk during a recent appearance on Complex Graps.

The reigning champion was asked to compare two of his biggest rivals — CM Punk and Cody Rhodes — and which one posed the tougher challenge in the ring. Instead of giving a neutral answer, McIntyre immediately took a shot at Punk while acknowledging the physical punishment both men have endured in their battles. McIntyre made it clear that his issues with Punk go far beyond competition inside the ring. While he admitted Punk is a dangerous opponent, he also described him in extremely harsh terms before explaining why their rivalry remains so intense.

“Got to be honest. Punk is the worst human being on planet Earth. So, like, I can start with that. He’s a genuinely horrible, horrible person. I won’t take away his toughness. Like Cody as well. They can take an absolute beating like no other. And I’ve gave them absolutely everything and they’ve kept trying to fight back.”

McIntyre also referenced the violent Hell in a Cell encounter between the two, explaining how Punk managed to score a victory in that match. According to McIntyre, the result came down to the punishment he absorbed during the fight rather than Punk being the better competitor.

“In the end, Punk defeated me at Hell in the Cell, not because he was a better man, because of severe blood loss. And I was breaking my back on the steps. Eventually we’ll have another showdown where I take him down.”

While Punk received the most direct insult during the conversation, McIntyre didn’t stop there. The WWE champion also pivoted to longtime rival Cody Rhodes, suggesting Rhodes relies too heavily on his carefully crafted public image instead of simply letting his in-ring ability speak for itself.

“For Cody, he’s a little different in the sense that I know how good he is. I know how great he is. And he could just rely on his talent, go on that. I don’t know why he just has to be the golden boy. Has to take every little shortcut he can, whether it’s on screen, off screen, and play this big smiley guy.”

McIntyre went a step further by suggesting his opinion about Rhodes isn’t unique within the locker room, claiming others in WWE share the same belief even if they don’t always say it publicly.

“It’s not just me saying it… it’s everyone else saying it. It’s Sami Zayn saying it. It’s the rest of the roster saying it. So if I say it suddenly it’s lies. If everyone else says it suddenly it’s the truth, right? Or maybe, maybe, just maybe I’ve been telling the truth all along.”

McIntyre’s comments show that the tension surrounding his rivalries with both Punk and Rhodes is far from finished. With major events on the horizon and the championship picture constantly shifting, it wouldn’t be surprising to see these grudges explode again sooner rather than later.
