Drew McIntyre isn’t happy about the main event set for tonight’s SmackDown — and he’s even accusing WWE of violating his contract.
The reigning WWE Champion is scheduled to defend the title against Cody Rhodes in a rematch from their brutal Three Stages of Hell match in January, where McIntyre captured the championship. But according to McIntyre, the rematch should never have been booked in the first place.
Speaking on Graps The Podcast, McIntyre claimed that a clause tied to their original match clearly stated Rhodes would not receive another title opportunity unless he earned it through other means.
“I mean, it’s BS, simple as that. I seem to recall a certain contract, a little thing I wrote in there. It wasn’t ‘Cody gets a rematch if Drew decides to interfere in every match for the rest of time’. It says Cody gets no rematch.”
McIntyre argued that the agreement required Rhodes to win either the Royal Rumble or the Elimination Chamber if he wanted another shot at the championship — something McIntyre says never happened.
“He has to win the Royal Rumble. He has to win the Elimination Chamber. He won neither.”
The Scottish star then pointed directly at SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis for making the match official, accusing him of breaking the terms of the agreement.
“Nick Aldis, that hooligan, made the match, breached a contract, and I’m currently trying to figure it, because this match shouldn’t be happening in the first place.”
McIntyre even joked that he’s considering legal action over the situation.
“I’m talking to the lawyers, I’m going to figure it out.”
He also criticized Aldis’ conduct during their recent confrontation, suggesting the SmackDown authority figure may not be suited for the role.
“You saw what happened with Nick, he’s too hot-headed to be a GM for a start. He gets in my face, one of the talent, rips off his jacket.”
McIntyre continued by pointing out the physical imbalance between himself and Aldis, while also raising concerns about how the situation might look if Aldis behaved the same way toward other members of the roster.
“I mean, I’m 6’5, 280, I could drop him on his arse any second… imagine it’s one of the little guys, which is basically 80% of the rest of the roster. Imagine it’s one of the females in that situation.”
Despite his frustration with the booking, McIntyre made it clear that his goal remains the same heading into tonight’s match.
“As far as I’m concerned it’s BS. It’s the same old story, trying to screw Drew McIntyre… whatever happens on Friday, I’m going to make sure I leave that match with this championship and head into WrestleMania as champion as I should.”
With tensions already running high between McIntyre, Rhodes, and Aldis, the championship match on SmackDown could have major implications heading into WrestleMania.
