Donald Trump just received a cultural honor that’s turning heads in both political and wrestling circles—the Ula Fala.

The President, who’s also a WWE Hall of Famer, was recently presented with the Ula Fala, a sacred Samoan symbol worn by high-ranking chiefs. The ceremonial gesture is meant to recognize leadership, respect, and power—qualities often associated with the title “Tribal Chief.” But this time, that title didn’t go to WWE’s Roman Reigns.

Steven Cheung, White House Director of Communications and longtime Trump ally, posted a photo of Trump wearing the Ula Fala and added a caption calling him “my Tribal Chief.” The image quickly spread online, especially among wrestling fans who couldn’t ignore the irony.

Roman Reigns has dominated WWE for years under the moniker “The Tribal Chief,” a persona inspired by his Samoan heritage and Anoa’i family legacy. So for Trump to now be adorned with the Ula Fala—and referred to by the same title—has stirred up conversation about cultural symbolism, appropriation, and political messaging.

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect or more polarizing. On the same day the Ula Fala photo dropped, Roman Reigns made headlines for voicing his support for Trump in the upcoming election. When asked about his political stance, Reigns said, “I support our president. Trump is one of those guys where he’s got a vast history and a huge background. He’s been in entertainment. He’s been in big business, politics. At this point, I’m supporting a bright future for our country. Positive and competent leadership.”

He added that he doesn’t align with everything Trump does, saying, “It’s like he needs that adversary. He needs that opposition to bounce off of. He needs that competitive motivation or something.”

So now, in one surreal crossover moment, Trump is being called “Tribal Chief” by a White House official while the actual “Tribal Chief” of WWE is pledging his support to the President. Whether you see it as symbolic respect or something more calculated, this moment is already being dissected from all angles.
