Dominik Mysterio didn’t just interrupt John Cena in Boston—he wanted to steal the entire spotlight. And now he’s admitting exactly why he walked into TD Garden ready to ruin Cena’s final hometown appearance before retirement.

Speaking on the Towers of Power podcast, Dominik broke down how he mentally prepared to step in front of a crowd that was there to worship Cena and cheer on Triple H. According to “Dirty Dom,” the plan was simple: make the moment about him.

When asked what his preparation looked like walking out to face Cena and Triple H in Boston, Dom didn’t hesitate.

“It was, it wasn’t even more of like preparing,” Mysterio said. “It was just making that moment about me you know? I knew I was going to be in there with, obviously, John Cena and Triple H in Boston, TD Garden—everything was perfectly in place for John Cena, and it was his night. So when I went out there, I made sure that it was about me.”

Dom then addressed the thunderous boos that rained down the second he walked through the curtain. Most performers crumble in that kind of heat—but not him.

“No, it doesn’t get to me at all,” Mysterio stated. “Because that’s the thing about being booed. You got to embrace it. You know, some people don’t like it, but as long as you’re getting some noise out of people, man, that’s all that matters.”

Dom carried that attitude straight into the main event on RAW, where he defended the Intercontinental Championship against Cena after provoking him earlier in the night. Despite ambushing Cena before the bell and fighting through a wild referee bump, Dominik couldn’t escape Boston with the gold. Cena walked out with the IC Title—the final championship he needed to complete his Grand Slam before retirement.

Dom’s explanation now puts his entire performance in a different light: this wasn’t just about a title defense. It was about stealing John Cena’s final hometown spotlight—even if he lost the belt in the process. John Cena got the fairytale win. Dominik Mysterio got the heat. And now he’s owning every second of it.

What do you think—did Dominik elevate himself by hijacking Cena’s moment, or did he get humbled in the end? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know how you saw it go down.
