Dominik Mysterio is now trying to justify his brutal attack on mini John Cena on the November 24th edition of WWE RAW.
While speaking to Sam Roberts and Meghan Morant, Dominik Mysterio explained his side after getting backlash for attacking the mini–John Cena on RAW. He said he hoped Cena saw the kick to “Little John” because, in his view, the mini-Cena deserved it.
According to Dominik, they had a plan backstage, but Little John got too excited and went off script, so Dominik felt he needed to put him back in line. He didn’t see it as disrespectful or crossing a line.
“I definitely… I hope John saw that Spartan kick to Little John, ’cause he deserved it, you know? Me and Little John had a plan backstage. He got a little excited out there and went off script — off the plan. So as the King of the Luchadores, I had to put him in his place. I had to let him know who his boss was. It was not disrespectful at all or too far.”
Dominik also said he meant the whole segment as a tribute to John Cena during his retirement tour. He wanted to recreate the moment he once interrupted Cena at Madison Square Garden, a promo he called one of the greatest of all time, or at least in his personal top three.
Mysterio believed Cena would appreciate the homage and enjoy someone portraying him, especially since Cena is such a thespian.
“Personally, the way I saw it, I thought, you know, Cena’s retirement tour — let me pay homage to him, right? And everything that he’s done. I was trying to recreate one of the greatest wrestling promos ever, which was when I interrupted him in Madison Square Garden. Ever. Greatest of all time. I loved it, I loved it. If not, I’ll be humble — top three. Oh wow. So I thought, ‘Let me pay homage to this.’ I thought Cena would love this, you know? He would love if someone portrayed him. And Cena, you know, being a thespian, I’m sure he loved that.”
The aforementioned segment quickly became one of the biggest moments of the show. Dominik Mysterio was in the ring when John Cena’s entrance music suddenly played, making the entire crowd think Cena was really coming out.
Instead, a little person dressed exactly like Cena walked onto the stage; jorts, hat, wristbands, salute, everything. Dominik pretended he didn’t care, then out of nowhere attacked the mini-Cena and hit the 619 and frog splash on him before Rey Mysterio came out and made the save.
It was later confirmed that the mini-Cena was Syko, a popular performer from Discovery’s Big Little Brawlers and one of the top stars in the Micro Wrestling Federation.
Dominik Mysterio keeps proving he’s one of WWE’s most unhinged heels. Whether fans believe his excuse or think he’s just creating chaos, one thing is certain: Dominik knows exactly how to get everyone talking.
