Dominik Mysterio isn’t shy about speaking his mind — especially when it comes to old-school wrestling traditions and respecting the locker room.
While appearing on My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox, the WWE Intercontinental Champion was asked about his biggest wrestling pet peeves. He admitted there are “so many,” explaining that he considers himself an old soul when it comes to how wrestling should be treated. One of his main sticking points? Keeping kayfabe alive as much as possible.
“I’m a fan of the old-schoolness of wrestling. I grew up around it for the longest time. I’m just an old soul when it comes to it and I have a lot of pet peeves. One of them is kayfabe. I personally enjoy always staying in it as much as possible. Like, I am Dirty Dom as Dirty Dom gets. And if… I don’t know… I just don’t like it when you’re not. But that’s just me personally. There’s so many different opinions — it’s a touchy subject right now. I could care less. At the end of the day, I’m going to do Dirty Dom. That’s just me. I grew up on it. I can say whatever I want, but people are going to have their opinions and that’s just what it is. They’re like, what is it… like buttholes? Everyone has one.”
The conversation then shifted to locker room etiquette, where Dominik revealed one of his biggest issues — people barging into the male talent locker room without knocking.
“When it comes to the male talent in the locker room, I feel like it’s very personal to us. We’re in there changing, there’s things that happen in the locker room, and if you don’t knock before coming into male talent in the locker room and you’re not male talent, to me it’s an issue. Like if you’re just barging in, look — no. Have some respect. You’re walking into our locker room… no, ‘I’m looking for somebody.’ No. You can’t just kick the door and say, ‘Where is Dirty Dom?’ Like dude, what if I’m taking a s*? What if I’m changing with my pants down and my little dirty do is off?”*
Dominik noted that while this might seem like common sense, “you’d be surprised how often it does not happen.”
From protecting kayfabe to protecting his personal space, it’s clear that Dominik Mysterio takes wrestling traditions seriously — and he’s not afraid to call out those who don’t.
