Dolph Ziggler’s return at Madison Square Garden during the November 17 episode of WWE RAW had the crowd on their feet, but it turns out the appearance wasn’t a full-fledged WWE comeback. Instead, it was a one-night deal—Ziggler is still with TNA.

According to Fightful Select, sources clarified that Ziggler is not signed to a WWE contract. Much like Matt Cardona’s surprise appearance the week prior on SmackDown, Ziggler’s RAW moment was done under a short-term agreement. WWE brought him in to face Solo Sikoa in the Last Time Is Now Tournament, but there’s no long-term commitment behind the scenes.

“Much like with Matt Cardona/Zack Ryder the week prior, WWE sources indicated to Fightful that Ziggler is not signed to a WWE contract.”

TNA sources mentioned that Ziggler, now performing on the indies as Nic Nemeth, prefers this kind of flexibility after spending years locked into WWE’s rigid structure.

“We were told by TNA sources that Nemeth has preferred that method after being locked down to WWE for so long.”

Although he took a loss to Solo Sikoa, Ziggler’s performance impressed WWE officials.

“WWE was happy with his performance on Monday.”

While Ziggler’s entrance brought nostalgia and electricity to the Garden, fans shouldn’t read too much into it. Just like Cardona, this appearance seems to be a one-off—for now.

Should WWE offer Ziggler a full-time return, or is he better off keeping his options open in TNA and the indies? Drop your thoughts below and let us know where you want to see him next.
