The Street Profits may have retained their titles, but it was DIY who walked out with the gold—literally.
On the April 18 episode of WWE SmackDown, Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford defended their WWE Tag Team Championships against the Motor City Machine Guns in a wild, fast-paced match that had the Las Vegas crowd on their feet. After back-and-forth action, high-risk dives, and near falls, everything came crashing down when Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa stormed the ring.
As Ford soared over the ring post with a flip dive, Gargano and Ciampa hit the ring out of nowhere and laid waste to both Ford and Dawkins. The referee had no choice but to call for the bell, giving the Street Profits the win by disqualification. “Winners: Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford (by disqualification) [retain championship],” the announcement rang out.
But the real shock came seconds later—Ciampa and Gargano snatched the tag belts and held them high over the fallen champs.
It was a bold move that didn’t earn them a win, but it made a statement loud and clear: DIY isn’t waiting around for a title shot—they’re taking what they believe is already theirs.
UPDATE: Nick Aldis announced all tag teams will take place in a TLC match on next week’s episode of SmackDown for the tag team championships.
Are Gargano and Ciampa justified in taking the titles like that, or did they just cross a line they can’t come back from? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
