Deonna Purrazzo isn’t here for the online noise—and she’s making it crystal clear that fighting for opportunities in AEW doesn’t mean she’s bitter or ungrateful.
During her appearance on Muscle Memory, The Virtuosa opened up about the harsh reality of competing in AEW’s stacked women’s division, explaining how the locker room dynamic reminds her of NXT—highly competitive and cutthroat—but with people constantly twisting her words online.
When asked to compare the environments of NXT, TNA, and AEW, Deonna was blunt about the struggle for TV time.
“Transitioning to AEW I think is probably a lot similar to that NXT locker room where it’s like — it’s highly competitive. There’s only so many spots for women, and if it’s not you that week, you want it to be you. And I think that’s where the internet kind of gets on me specifically about like, ‘Oh, she’s not happy. Oh, she’s throwing digs at the company. Oh, she’s this…’ and it’s like, no. Like, of course I want those opportunities. Of course I want it to be me. But I’m not upset that it’s anyone else. I’m not a competitive person in that way where I’m like — my hard work will get me noticed eventually.”
Deonna made it clear her frustration isn’t aimed at other women on the roster—it’s about making sure her own work gets seen and her character gets properly introduced to the AEW fanbase, something she feels hasn’t happened yet.
She also pointed out the contrast with TNA, which she described as the most supportive locker room she’s been part of, with far less of that cutthroat mentality.
While Purrazzo continues to fight for her spot in AEW and build her name in Ring of Honor, one thing is clear—she’s focused on the grind, not the drama.
