One of the most dominant tag teams of the late 1980s is finally getting its official moment in the spotlight.

Demolition will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. The news was delivered directly to Bill “Ax” Eadie and Barry “Smash” Darsow during a video call from WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker, formally recognizing their impact on the tag team division during the height of the WWF boom.

Demolition debuted in WWE in 1987 and quickly stood out thanks to their intimidating presence, studded leather gear, and face paint. Managed by Mr. Fuji, the duo became one of the most feared acts in the company. Fuji regularly accompanied them to the ring and wasn’t shy about getting involved when necessary.

Their legacy was cemented at WrestleMania IV in 1988, when they defeated Strike Force to win their first WWF Tag Team Championship. That reign lasted an astonishing 478 days, setting a company record for the longest tag team title run at the time. The record stood for more than 20 years before eventually being broken by The New Day.

During that historic stretch, Demolition defended the titles against teams like The Rockers, The Twin Towers, The Powers of Pain, and The Hart Foundation. At SummerSlam 1988, they retained the championships against Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart with help from Mr. Fuji and Jimmy Hart.

They would go on to capture the titles three times in total, with their third and final reign coming at WrestleMania VI, where they defeated The Colossal Connection — Haku and Andre the Giant. Their signature finishing move, the “Demolition Decapitation,” became one of the most recognizable tandem maneuvers of the era.

After WrestleMania VI, Brian “Crush” Adams joined the group, forming a three-man version of Demolition. Crush was brought in to help carry the workload after Eadie experienced health issues. However, the 2026 Hall of Fame induction specifically honors the Ax and Smash era of the team.

The induction also marks a significant shift in a relationship that was once strained. Demolition had been involved in a class-action lawsuit against WWE related to traumatic brain injuries, which was later dismissed. Eadie also previously engaged in a legal dispute with the company over intellectual property rights tied to the Demolition name and characters.

In recent years, tensions appear to have eased. In early 2025, both Eadie and Darsow signed WWE Legends contracts, allowing the company to release licensed merchandise featuring the team. Darsow had previously mentioned that WWE invited them to attend the Hall of Fame ceremony during WrestleMania XL weekend, but scheduling conflicts prevented their appearance at that time.

Before forming Demolition, both men had notable singles careers. Eadie competed as The Masked Superstar, facing major names like Bob Backlund, Hulk Hogan, and Dusty Rhodes. Darsow held the NWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship as Krusher Khruschev before later portraying Repo Man in WWF after Demolition disbanded in 1991.

The 2026 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will take place during WrestleMania 42 weekend, officially placing Demolition alongside the all-time greats of tag team wrestling.
