DDP became widely known for his time in WCW, where his Diamond Cutter finisher helped him gain tons of popularity. However, it appears that DDP asked Triple H not to use his finisher as he felt The Game was going to improve it.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, DDP shared a story about a time when Triple H used the Diamond Cutter during a match. The pro wrestling legend admitted he was worried that Triple H might improve it and overshadow his version of the finisher.
“Triple H one night, because I watched everything, if I was on the road, I’d come home, and it’s all taped. He did a Diamond Cutter out of nowhere, and I was like, ‘Oh god, of all people,’ like, he’ll make it better. That’s exactly what I thought, ‘He’ll make it better!'”
DDP revealed that he called him and explained that while he admired Triple H’s Pedigree, he was just starting to get the Diamond Cutter over and would appreciate it if Triple H didn’t use the move anymore. Triple H, being respectful, agreed to stop using the finisher.
From then on, he never used the Diamond Cutter again. DDP noted that Triple H didn’t have to do as he requested but he did anyway, which speaks volumes of what The Game meant to DDP.
“I called him up. He answers his phone, and he’s like, ‘Hey, D!’ I’m like, ‘Hey, bro!’ I said, ‘I got a favor I want to ask you.’ ‘Sure, what do you need?’ I go, ‘Nah, don’t say yes yet because I don’t have the right to ask you this.’ I said, ‘I saw you use the Diamond Cutter the other night on a finish, and that Pedigree is super cool; I love that finisher for you, but man, that Diamond Cutter, bro, I’m just starting to get it over.’ I said, ‘I would so appreciate it if you wouldn’t do it.’ ‘Sure, D!’ He never did it again.
“Wow, like he didn’t have to do that. He could have been like, come on dude and I’d have went, ‘Yeah, you’re right, you’re right, it’s stupid, but I had to ask.’ Yeah, but he didn’t have to ask. He already said yes. That’s who Paul Levesque is to me.”
On the other hand, DDP also revealed how Randy Orton received permission to use The Diamond Cutter. Regardless, Triple H showed just how much he respected a legend like DDP by not using the Diamond Cutter anymore and for that, DDP will forever appreciate him.
