A powerful story of redemption, brotherhood, and second chances might finally be heading to the big screen—if Hollywood can get it right.
Diamond Dallas Page has confirmed that a scripted film based on his real-life friendship and emotional journey with WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts is currently in development. But according to DDP, getting this movie made hasn’t been easy.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, the former WCW Champion revealed that while multiple writers have already taken a crack at the screenplay, none have fully nailed the spirit of the story he and Jake want to tell—especially the emotional weight of The Resurrection of Jake the Snake, the 2015 documentary that captured Roberts’ incredible comeback from addiction, depression, and near death.
“Haha, yes, there actually is. It’s really about… well, we’ve had a couple of guys come in and try to write it. The writing was good, but it didn’t quite capture what we wanted it to be — meaning The Resurrection.”
The project has apparently been in development for years, but DDP has kept quiet about it—mostly because of how unpredictable the entertainment industry can be.
“That project has been going on for years. I didn’t really talk about it because it’s just the usual Hollywood talk. People don’t realize how hard it is to actually get something made.”
While the documentary gave fans an intimate look at Roberts’ road to recovery through DDP’s help and DDP Yoga, the new scripted film aims to retell that journey for a wider audience—possibly introducing a new generation to one of wrestling’s most dramatic personal comebacks.
If the film makes it to production, it could stand alongside other emotional sports dramas like The Wrestler or The Fighter, only with a message centered around hope, healing, and friendship instead of defeat.
