Darby Allin Proposed to His Girlfriend at the Summit of Mount Everest

Darby Allin reached the summit of Mount Everest back in May, achieving a lifelong dream. However, that’s not the only incredible thing he did there as Darby revealed he proposed to his partner at the summit.

While speaking to Steve-O, Darby Allin revealed that he proposed to his girlfriend while standing at the summit of Mount Everest, capturing the moment on video to show her later, saying, “Yeah, proposed to my girlfriend on top of the summit, too. And that was… that was fun.”

Darby Allin first met his fiancée on a school bus in high school, where he had a crush on her but never had the courage to ask her out. They went their separate ways, reconnecting about fourteen years later after she saw a video of him jumping off a waterfall in Tennessee. She told Allin how cool it was that he was still doing the daring stunts he was known for in high school.

They began reading a relationship book together, where Darby learned that her love language was words of affirmation, something he struggled with as giving direct compliments didn’t come naturally to him. Wanting to make it special, he used the Everest video to deliver one. At the summit, he said the top of the world was beautiful but not as beautiful as she was, before asking her to marry him.

“My, uh… fiancée—we met on the school bus in high school. And then I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I had a big crush on her. Didn’t have the courage to ask her out.’ Um… and then she, you know, goes off, and we reconnect like 14 years later. And, uh… she saw this video of me jumping off a waterfall in Tennessee, and she’s like, ‘Oh, it’s so cool, you’re still doing all the crazy stuff from high school.’

So we start, uh, reading this, like, relationship book, and her words of affir—like, hers is words of affirmation. Her love language is words of affirmation. But I’m horrible at words of affirmation. To me, to just go, ‘You’re so beautiful,’ it’s like… it’s so hard for me to do.

So I literally was like… on top of Mount Everest, and I said, ‘Oh, the top of the world is so beautiful, but not as beautiful as you.’ And then I said, ‘Will you marry me?’ in the video.”
