Daniel Cormier is not here for your hot takes—especially if they’re coming for Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson.

After Steveson’s shocking loss to Wyatt Hendrickson in the NCAA heavyweight championship match Saturday night, critics were quick to pile on. One fan in particular took it way too far on X, writing, “From failed WWE star, failed NFL Player, then deciding to go back to college and just to lose in the NCAA championship match. This might be a generational all time bad run for Gable Stevenson.”

That take didn’t sit well with Cormier—who was literally calling the match—and he wasted no time shutting it down with a brutal reality check. “You my friend are an idiot and I would like you to delete your account!” Cormier fired back. “Olympic champion. Things happen in wrestling. It was Wyatt’s night bro. Like what are you talking about man.”

The fan was referencing Steveson’s brief stints with both the WWE and the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, both of which didn’t quite pan out. But as Cormier pointed out, Steveson is still an Olympic gold medalist—something only a handful of humans on this planet can say.

Regardless of the loss, Steveson’s resume remains elite: multiple NCAA titles, a perfect college record before this weekend, and an Olympic gold medal from Tokyo in 2020. One loss doesn’t erase that legacy—unless you’re a clueless keyboard warrior looking for clicks.

What do you think of Daniel Cormier defending Gable Steveson? Did the fan go too far, or is fair criticism part of the game? Sound off in the comments below—we want to hear your take.
