Damian Priest might be out of the ring for now, but that doesn’t mean people in WWE aren’t talking about him—especially when it comes to just how tough he’s been in recent months.
According to a new report from PWInsider, there’s been serious internal talk within WWE praising the resilience of the former champion. “A lot of talk between WWE talents recently marveling at the toughness” shown by Priest has surfaced, especially considering the level of punishment he’s taken throughout his rivalry with Drew McIntyre.
Priest hasn’t wrestled since his chaotic United States Championship Fatal Four-Way Match at WWE Backlash, which also involved McIntyre, LA Knight, and reigning champion Jacob Fatu. The bout featured several intense moments, including Priest delivering a brutal elevated South of Heaven chokeslam off a platform and through tables in the crowd.
During the post-show press conference, Triple H revealed that Priest didn’t leave that match without damage. “Damian Priest had a tooth knocked loose tonight,” he confirmed, adding that the wrestler was “hoping it would stay in his head.”
The damage from that night may have added to a list of existing injuries. Priest previously battled McIntyre in a brutal Sin City Street Fight at WrestleMania 41—another physically taxing match where he ultimately came up short.
And now, it looks like Priest isn’t backing down. During the May 16, 2025 episode of WWE SmackDown, a major update aired showing Priest laying down the challenge for one final match with Drew McIntyre—inside a steel cage. The showdown is set for WWE Saturday Night Main Event on May 24. “I’m done playing games,” Priest said in the clip. “Let’s end this.”
The card also includes R-Truth vs. John Cena, adding even more star power to what’s quickly becoming a stacked show.
