CM Punk’s late-night confrontation with a fan in Las Vegas wasn’t the only tense situation involving WWE talent during WrestleMania 42 weekend, as a separate incident reportedly unfolded just minutes earlier involving Damian Priest.
According to PWInsider, one of their readers who was staying at the same hotel described another situation that happened before Punk knocked a fan’s phone down in the now-viral footage. The witness claimed several WWE talents were already dealing with large groups of fans crowding around them in the hotel lobby.
The witness described how the environment quickly became overwhelming, especially as fans pushed in to take photos while talents were trying to move through the area.
“Not only were Punk and others being surrounded by fans trying to get photos while Bayley and AJ Lee were speaking, but just minutes before this happened, WWE's Damian Priest had to step in to help a female WWE talent get away from a similar group of fans trying to surround her for photos and autographs.”
That account paints a bigger picture of what was happening behind the scenes, suggesting Punk’s confrontation may have been part of a much larger issue throughout the hotel during WrestleMania weekend.
The same witness also pointed out that security concerns became a frequent topic of conversation among those staying at the hotel, with multiple close calls reported throughout the weekend.
“The lack of security at the hotel was a topic of conversation over all WrestleMania weekend.”
The situation didn’t appear to be isolated to just one or two moments either. According to the witness, similar scenes played out involving several major WWE names as fans gathered in large numbers around them. Some wrestlers tried to push through the crowd without stopping, while others paused briefly to take photos before continuing on their way. Either way, the environment made it difficult for talent to move around freely.
With multiple incidents reportedly happening within minutes of each other, the situation highlights growing concerns about crowd control and talent safety during major wrestling weekends, especially when large numbers of fans gather at the same hotels as performers.
