Martínez made his debut on March 25, 2005, after training at The Monster Factory. He initially competed in Ring of Honor as Punishment Martinez, capturing the ROH World Television Championship, and wrestled in Japan through NJPW. In 2018, he signed with WWE NXT, winning the NXT North American Championship before moving to the main roster in 2021.
