Dakota Kai might be gearing up for her wrestling comeback—and it’s not just fan speculation this time.
According to a Q&A report from Fightful Select, the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion recently had new ring gear made, suggesting she’s getting serious about returning to the ring. The report didn’t lock in any destination for her next move, but Sean Ross Sapp noted he “wouldn’t be surprised” if she had a run in Japan again. While that’s just a personal opinion, it lines up with Kai’s past and her recent comments.
Kai, who was released by WWE on May 2, has kept a relatively low wrestling profile since then, focusing on her Twitch community. But in a recent stream, she openly told fans how much she misses competing.
“I miss wrestling, you guys! I got to get back into it. It’s just one of those things where it has been nice to have a little bit of a break. I have been doing it for a long time. Longer than the last seven years that I was in WWE. You know what I mean? It is nice to take a step back for a while, but I really do miss it.”
A return to Japan would make sense for Kai, who previously competed in Stardom during 2015 and 2016. She even held the Artist of Stardom Championship during her time there and had a brief stint in Pro Wrestling Zero1. With experience in Japan’s stiff, fast-paced style, many believe she could slide right back into that scene with ease.
Still, AEW fans are also throwing her name around as a potential game-changer, with dream matchups against Kris Statlander, Willow Nightingale, Toni Storm, and even a reunited session with Toni’s past rivals getting fans talking.
Kai was part of the May 2 WWE releases alongside Braun Strowman, Gigi Dolin, and Cora Jade. While some of those names have already resurfaced on the indie circuit, Kai has taken a more careful approach—perhaps to make her eventual return count even more.
