Could Curtis Axel Be the Next Intercontinental Champion?

Yes, that is a legitimate question. Could Curtis Axel be the next Intercontinental Champion? Axel is currently tied up with the Miztourage, but his days with them could be coming to an end. After that, what then?

I think it could be fun  if Curtis found himself in possession of the Intercontinental Championship. He dethrones his former leader. He wins the gold, and he gets happy ending. It’s not as far-fetched as one may think. In a world where Jinder Mahal is WWE Champion, anything is possible. Don’t count out the Axeman just yet.

It Makes for a Good Story

As mentioned earlier, Curtis is a bit caught up in this whole Miztourage business. He’s currently the A-Lister’s lackey, and it’s been a good role for him. He’s even wowed with the little dialogue he’s been given. His role last Monday was endearing in a strange way. The whole thing with him wanting to beat up Roman Reigns and then getting tied to a forklift was entertaining. There could be so much more to the story, though.

In his own way, the Miz does really like Curtis Axel. He said so himself. He thinks the world of him, and he said that even when Axel wasn’t listening. The Miz does care in a way. He even gave Curtis a Mizzie Award. Still, that doesn’t stop the A-Lister from treating his Miztourage as some expendable goons.

It would be easy to build a story where Axel grows disillusioned with the Miz’s empty words and false promises. He begins to see Miz for who he truly is: a coward. Boom, face turn.

They’ve teased an Axel face turn in the past. It was against Bo Dallas, no less. Then it just fizzled out and both men found themselves with the Miztourage. But the promo Axel cut in Minnesota wasn’t half bad. It was quite good, actually. He’s not completely terrible at being a face.

Being the Miz’s lackey and then turning on him is always going to be an easy way to give someone a character arc. Let Axel do it. It won’t be the worst thing in the world, and it would be a good way to kill time.
