The dream matchup between Conor McGregor and Logan Paul is officially a no-go. Despite McGregor’s bold claims about preliminary talks for a fight in India, the UFC has pulled the plug on the potential clash, leaving fans wondering what could have been.
McGregor initially hyped up the fight on social media, teasing the stakes as a battle for the “TKO King” title—a cheeky nod to the TKO Group, the parent company of WWE and UFC.
‘TKO Group! UFC vs WWE. There is levels to this, a big, sloppy novice is going to find out! TKO KING TITLE #BiggestGenerator#KingofNumbers#Streams#PPV I hold every record and I am coming back to KO this novice and rack in more numbers for the company. #StockMarketIndia#MyHighestPayPacketYet#Thanksforthecheese.“
But it looks like McGregor’s plans hit a wall with the UFC. Speaking to The Schmo, McGregor revealed the fight was nixed because the UFC wasn’t interested.
“It is what it is. The UFC just aren’t into it. I had the offer on the table in writing….Both athletes under the TKO banner, UFC WWE both rising up. You know the stock price of TKO Holding Group through the roof. New market in India opened up and booming. It was the business savvy and business sense to make the fight happen, or should I say the glorified spar happen, and in between this waiting period that we find ourselves in before I can get back to the Octagon, it made perfect sense on the calendar to go ahead with. I’m not sure the WWE, what they interest in was. I just knew the UFC weren’t into it.”
Meanwhile, Logan Paul hasn’t stepped into the boxing ring since his controversial disqualification win over McGregor’s former teammate, Dillon Danis. While the clash of these two TKO powerhouses would’ve been a massive spectacle, it seems the UFC’s control over McGregor’s career is the ultimate deciding factor.
With McGregor’s Octagon return still on hold and Paul pursuing his own ventures, fans are left to wonder what could’ve been. Was this fight ever a real possibility, or was it just another case of McGregor stirring the pot? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
