Trick Williams may be headed for the main roster, but his brand status is still up in the air.
Following his surprise face-off with Cody Rhodes during the pre-taped December 26 episode of SmackDown, speculation exploded over whether the former NXT standout had officially joined the blue brand. Earlier reports, including one from Bodyslam.net’s Cory Hays, claimed Williams was already listed internally as a SmackDown Superstar.
However, a new report from PWInsider is throwing cold water on that assumption.
“Former WWE NXT and TNA Champion Trick Williams will debut on SmackDown on 12/26 with the storyline being he’s a free agent looking to sign with the brand. We are told Williams has not been officially listed internally on a brand yet, so he could appear on Raw in the upcoming weeks as well, but he’ll be moving to the main roster in 2026.”
So while Trick Willy will appear on SmackDown to close out 2025, the company is keeping his options open as part of an on-screen free agency storyline—similar to what they’ve done in the past with other talents.
The only thing that seems certain now: Trick Williams is coming to the main roster. Where he lands? That’s still part of the story.
Should WWE keep Trick Williams floating between brands, or is he a better fit for RAW or SmackDown full-time? Sound off below.
