The January 24 episode of SmackDown aired live from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, located about an hour away from the venue in San Antonio that is set to host Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 25. Cody Rhodes made an appearance on SmackDown this week, leaving a strong impression on the show.

The American Nightmare kicked off WWE SmackDown this week as Joe Tessitore introduced him to the ring. He received his typical entrance, and sported a full suit for the night’s show. Naturally, fans in Texas gave him a great reaction as we saw several cowboy hats in the crowd, just like The American Dream used to wear.

Joe Tessitore asked Cody Rhodes about having to surrender his Undisputed World Title tomorrow night at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and how it feels to know that this may be the final time he holds the title. Cody Rhodes immediately brought up how Shawn Michaels is the perfect choice to officiate that segment tomorrow night.

Cody Rhodes brought up how everyone is talking about main eventing WrestleMania, but holding the title is the only guaranteed way. Joe Tessitore then asked Rhodes about coming back from injury, and this angry version of Kevin Owens. That brought Cody to simply ask the fans what they think about Kevin Owens, and they booed him on cue.

While calling Kevin Owens “a genius in the ring,” Cody Rhodes said that Owens chooses the easy way 9 out of 10 times. That is why a ladder match at the Royal Rumble is the perfect choice for them. Cody Rhodes seems very ready for his match against Kevin Owens. He also made a point to say that just because he’s a good guy doesn’t mean Cody isn’t sick of Kevin Owens’ package piledriving BS. Rhodes also mentioned Randy Orton, and he has no problem punching Owens in the face. Then he wished Owens good luck to close out the segment.

Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens are set to clash in a ladder match for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble in February. Before that showdown, the two will take part in a contract signing during Saturday Night’s Main Event. The segment will also feature Shawn Michaels collecting the Undisputed WWE Championship and the retired Winged Eagle title from both men.
