Cody Rhodes isn’t ruling out a heel turn—but he’s warning fans that it wouldn’t be your typical switch to the dark side.
During his appearance on First Take Rhodes addressed the idea after Stephen A. Smith brought up the recent storyline heel turn of John Cena and asked whether fans could expect something similar from the Undisputed WWE Champion.
Rhodes didn’t shy away from the topic, but he made it clear that his idea of going heel would be extreme and almost self-sabotaging.
“I always like to say in what we do, never say never. And the more you’re in this, it’s probably likely. But I think my version of a heel is just way too… I don’t know. I wouldn’t have music. The song would go away. The entrance would go away. I’d try to get myself canceled. I don’t know if it would even translate.”
His offbeat answer got laughs from both Molly Qerim and Stephen A., with Molly calling him “hilarious.” Cody leaned into the joke, but he ultimately kept it grounded and honest.
“Never say never, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon.”
Rhodes remains one of WWE’s most universally cheered stars, and while a heel turn would shake things up, his latest remarks suggest it would be more performance art than traditional wrestling villainy.
