Cody Rhodes isn’t just carrying WWE on his shoulders as champion — he’s surrounding himself with some of the sharpest minds in the industry.
During his appearance on Bert Kreischer’s Bertcast, Rhodes opened up about the people backstage who push him creatively and mentally, and it turns out he’s regularly sitting alongside some of the most influential figures in wrestling history.
While talking about personal growth and staying around people who elevate him, Cody explained how meaningful it is to be part of backstage conversations with legends who’ve shaped entire eras of WWE. He described those moments as some of the most valuable parts of his current run. After explaining how these discussions keep him sharp, Cody followed with the exact quote.
“I get every now and then to—I’ll be sitting on my bus and there’ll be a Michael Hayes, Michael P.S. [Hayes], there’ll be a Mr. Paul Heyman, there’s a Triple H, there’s all these luminary figures who have done everything. And that—I think that’s my favorite part of wrestling currently—is to be part of what they’re discussing. And to hear it, because they’re discussing crowd psychology, they’re discussing modern events and how they apply to this current [product].”
For a guy who has carried the weight of a company and a fanbase on his shoulders, hearing Rhodes light up about learning from Heyman, Hayes, and Triple H shows exactly why he’s been able to stay grounded during his WWE Championship run. These are the conversations that keep him sharp, keep him inspired, and keep him growing as the face of WWE.
Cody has made it clear that being around the right people isn’t just good for his career — it’s essential for the kind of champion he wants to be. This revelation adds even more real-life depth to Cody’s current era in WWE and shows fans that the lessons he’s learning behind the curtain are just as important as the fights he’s winning in the ring.
