The Rock returned to the WWE fold in the build up to WrestleMania 40, and he immediately got in Cody Rhodes’ way. A match with Roman Reigns at the showcase of the immortals finally allowed Cody to finish his story, but his tale with The Final Boss isn’t done by a long shot.
For over a year, The Rock and Cody Rhodes have been closely connected in some way in their storylines. Their creative has continued past WrestleMania 40, and now things are set to unfold at WrestleMania 41.
Cody Rhodes rejected The Rock’s offer to sell his soul at WWE Elimination Chamber. Despite The Rock’s previous prominence in the narrative, Cody and John Cena have not referenced him since the event. Then John Cena turned heel, and the rest is history.
During an interview with Complex, Cody Rhodes was asked if he had a message for The Rock. He hopes that The Final Boss can watch WrestleMania 41, and although they’ve been at odds with each other, the American Nightmare has learned from the People’s Champion.
“Oh, one message for the Rock that I knew he was going to hear. I would just hope that the Final Boss can sit back and put his feet up and watch WrestleMania 41 and pat the sweat on his forehead with dollar bills that I’ll be making him in another main event at another WrestleMania, where I’m going to make it so that they leave the event thinking about me and not him. But again, he’s the boss, so he gets to reap those rewards in a similar way that I do, and also in the craziest of ways, I’d also want to thank him. He is, again, a little bit outside of the box, but he thinks in a very unique way, and although what you see on screen, those individuals don’t get along and that might be very, very real. I have learned a great deal from the Final Boss, and I’m not too cool to admit that. I hope to continue to learn more.”
It remains uncertain whether The Rock will make an appearance on WWE television before WrestleMania 41. We will have to see if he remains in the shadows, because John Cena’s ongoing heel streak is certainly due to The Final Boss’ presence.
WrestleMania 41 will be quite a show, and it may be impossible for The Rock to let the event unfold without getting involved in some way. Only time will tell how the story unfolds, but Las Vegas is set for a massive event.
