Cody Rhodes is currently on his second reign as Undisputed WWE Champion after beating John Cena at WWE SummerSlam. However, Rhodes has now explained why his first run was hard to enjoy.

While speaking on First Take, Cody Rhodes said that his second reign as Undisputed WWE Champion is focused on enjoying the experience more than anything else. He explained that during a match it’s easy to get caught up in the action, the big moments, and the crowd’s energy.

Looking back on his first title run, which lasted a full year and came with immense pressure as WWE reached new heights, he felt the need to lead the company and be its quarterback. Now in his second reign, while he remains committed to performing at a high level, his main goal is to have fun and truly appreciate the journey.

“I think this time it’s more about enjoying it actually than anything. And I know sometimes you get in there in the performance and the heat of the moment—the spots and the moves and the connection with the audience—but having been champion once before, having had a full year with it and feeling like every bit of pressure could possibly be on me, with WWE cruising to heights it hadn’t been at, I wanted to be the lead dog, wanted to be the quarterback. In the second run with it, I also just want to have a good time.”
