Cody Rhodes wasn’t done for the night after all. Earlier in the April 3 episode of SmackDown, Rhodes was taken out during the opening segment after Pat McAfee blindsided him and Randy Orton followed up with multiple chair shots. It looked like the Undisputed WWE Champion might be finished for the night.

However, in an update later in the show, Rhodes returned during the final hour after the SmackDown Tag Team Title match. He attacked Kit Wilson with a CrossRhodes before grabbing a microphone to address what happened earlier in the night. Rhodes didn’t hold back when talking about the reveal that McAfee was behind Randy Orton’s mystery phone calls.

“We all got dressed up to find out who it was that Randy was talking to on the phone. Then it was Pat McAfee. That is the same as the third member of the nWo not being Hulk Hogan, but Disco Inferno.”

He then made it clear that McAfee will be getting payback soon.

“He tells Pat he will get a receipt. He tells Pat that him and everyone he is with can kiss his ass.”

Rhodes also hinted that the situation is pushing him to a different mindset as WrestleMania 42 gets closer.

“Stephanie tells Cody he has to go to the dark place and become a bad guy. He says he doesn't know if he knows how to do it any more… Cody says he has been hearing those voices in his head. You don't want to hear what they have to say.”

Rhodes’ return showed that the earlier attack didn’t keep him down, and his message made it clear that the situation with McAfee and Orton is far from over as WrestleMania 42 approaches.

Do you think Cody Rhodes sending that message on SmackDown makes things even more personal heading into WrestleMania 42? Let us know what you think in the comments.
