Cody Rhodes isn’t acting surprised about the chaos surrounding his WrestleMania 42 build — in fact, he says this kind of mess is exactly what he expects at this point.
The WWE Champion was originally headed toward what looked like a straight-up legacy match against Randy Orton, built around their long history dating back nearly two decades to Rhodes’ early days as Orton’s protégé. That direction shifted fast once Pat McAfee was inserted into the storyline as Orton’s ally, with Jelly Roll ending up on Rhodes’ side.
The situation escalated again on SmackDown, where Rhodes and Jelly Roll were attacked by McAfee and Orton, adding more fuel to what has already become one of the more chaotic WrestleMania builds this year. Despite all the twists, Rhodes doesn’t sound rattled.
After a fan reacted to the latest SmackDown segment by saying “always with you QB,” Rhodes fired back with a response that made it clear he’s treating this situation like business as usual.
“We are gonna stand in the pocket, stare down every foolish obstacle, and throw!”
Rhodes then followed that up with a line that summed up his mindset heading into WrestleMania.
“A normal Wrestlemania for us.”
That comment hits a little differently considering Rhodes’ recent history. Over the last few years, his road to WrestleMania has rarely gone smoothly, with constant changes, added drama, and unexpected obstacles becoming part of the routine. Now, with Pat McAfee in the mix, Jelly Roll backing him up, and Randy Orton standing across the ring, Rhodes is once again walking into WrestleMania with more chaos than clarity — and sounding like he wouldn’t have it any other way.
