There has been a lot of discussion about Cody Rhodes turning heel, especially after Rhodes admitted that his babyface run is almost over. However, it appears that Rhodes has now backtracked on his comments about potentially turning heel in the future.
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Dave LaGreca told Cody Rhodes to stop talking about turning heel, reminding him that he’s a hero to so many fans, saying, “Cody, no more of this heel talk, alright? You’re a hero to a lot of fans.”
The American Nightmare responded by saying he’s noticed that talk about him turning heel mostly just lives on X and that it’s a really deep topic there. He admitted you can never say never in wrestling, since plenty of people have it in them to show both the light and the dark sides.
Even then, Cody Rhodes doesn’t think that’s the path he’d be taking with the time he has left in his wrestling career. But he once again ended it by saying never say never, despite the fact that he did backtrack on his previous comments.
“You know what? One thing I noticed about that is it only exists on X, and it’s deep—it’s a deep discussion. I don’t even… yeah, you never say never in wrestling, and plenty of people have the capacity for the light and the dark, but I don’t know if we’re on that road within the time I have left in wrestling. Who knows though? With Bully Ray sitting next to you, you never wanna say never.”
Earlier this year, The Rock confirmed that he pushed for Rhodes to turn heel, but WWE shut down the idea for now. Regardless, we’ll have to see if Rhodes does end up turning heel somewhere down the line, as his backtracking on his previous comments has made fans feel he might never turn heel now.
