Brock Lesnar came back at the very end of SummerSlam, where he laid waste to John Cena. Cody Rhodes already left the ring when Lesnar returned and now the American Nightmare has addressed Lesnar’s return.
While speaking to ESPN, Cody Rhodes was asked about Brock Lesnar’s return and talked about what Brock means to the sport. He explained that during SummerSlam weekend, WWE held tryouts with many NIL athletes and people coming from traditional sports backgrounds. He pointed to Tiffany Stratton as an example of someone who came from sports and developed into a pro wrestler and sports entertainer.
The American Nightmare said Brock Lesnar fits perfectly with WWE’s direction of combining sports and entertainment. Lesnar is an NCAA champion and a former UFC heavyweight champion, showing the kind of athlete WWE looks for. Rhodes also reminded everyone that he was the last person to defeat Brock Lesnar, which happened at SummerSlam 2023.
“I mean, Brock in terms of athleticism—one of the things we did was hold tryouts going into SummerSlam weekend, and you have so many NIL athletes. You have so many people coming from the world of sport. Tiffany Stratton’s a great example of someone on our roster now who came from sports and grew into becoming a professional wrestler and part of sports entertainment.
Brock is somebody who’s an NCAA champion, a UFC heavyweight champion. He fits right in with the direction WWE is going—where sport meets entertainment. Also, I should point out the last person who beat Brock Lesnar is standing right here.”
For the time being, it’s clear that WWE is booking a feud between John Cena and Brock Lesnar. Therefore, we’ll have to see whether Cody Rhodes and the Beast Incarnate will end up revisiting their own feud somewhere down the line, as fans would love it.
