Cody Deaner may have been forced to walk away from the ring at TNA Under Siege, but don’t start writing his wrestling obituary just yet.
During Saturday’s pay-per-view at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario, Deaner put his career on the line in a singles match against Eddie Edwards of The System. The match was billed as Deaner’s last shot to remain an in-ring competitor in TNA—and he gave the crowd a performance filled with emotion, grit, and one brutal farewell.
Before the bout, Eric Young was shown backstage offering support to Deaner, setting the tone for what would be a deeply personal showdown. Once the bell rang, Edwards took early control and punished Deaner with strikes and submissions, looking to humiliate him as well as retire him.
Deaner fought back with everything he had, getting a massive reaction from the crowd as he clawed for momentum. Even as Edwards landed punishing offense, Deaner refused to stay down. The energy was raw. It felt real. And when Edwards scored the pinfall to end Deaner’s in-ring career—at least on paper—the entire arena was left stunned.
That’s when Brian Myers and the rest of The System came down to gloat, adding insult to injury as Deaner stared at the lights.
But here’s the twist: Ringside News can confirm that Deaner is not actually retired from pro wrestling. While it’s unclear when or where he’ll return, we’re told his career in the ring is not over. Whether that return happens inside TNA or somewhere else remains to be seen—but he’s not done yet. On top of that, Deaner still works behind the scenes for TNA as a road agent, helping put together matches and guide talent, meaning his influence in the company continues regardless of whether he’s lacing up his boots.
So was this a farewell—or just the next chapter? Stay tuned.
Do you think Cody Deaner will find his way back to the ring soon? And if so, should it be in TNA—or somewhere new? Drop your take in the comments.
