CM Punk’s “All-Time Greats” Status Called Into Question

Bully Ray isn’t convinced that CM Punk belongs in the conversation with WWE’s biggest legends. While he acknowledges Punk as a “modern-day legend,” he hesitated to put him in the same category as icons like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Ray broke down why he doesn’t think Punk has reached that level. “I think he’s a modern-day legend, I don’t even know if I can say legend. I mean, do you put CM Punk in the same conversation as Steve Austin? See, you got to think about it, it’s not just an immediate yes.”

Ray continued, pointing out how Austin completely shifted WWE’s landscape. “Did Punk carry a company like Austin did? … There’s a lot of guys that were near Austin’s level at the time, i.e., The Undertaker, The Rock, Triple H, but Steve was the guy. When Steve hit, everything hit … Steve, Rock, Taker, Punk—does it sound right?”

While the debate over Punk’s legacy rages on, The Second City Savior is staying focused on his storyline with Roman Reigns. Punk recently suggested that fans should expect more developments with Reigns soon, hinting that things are far from over between them.

The tension has been building ever since Punk aligned with Reigns’ team at Survivor Series: WarGames 2024. Paul Heyman still owes Punk a favor, and that lingering debt could play a major role in what happens next. Their story took a major turn when Punk eliminated both Reigns and Seth Rollins from the men’s Royal Rumble match, leading to Rollins attacking Reigns in frustration.

With so many moving pieces, Punk’s next move could shake things up in a big way.
