CM Punk’s RAW promo last night wasn’t just intense—it may not have gone the way WWE planned at all.

After Punk opened the April 6, 2026 episode of WWE RAW in Houston with a long, aggressive segment aimed at Roman Reigns, a new report suggests that what viewers saw wasn’t entirely scripted—and that’s the real story coming out of the show.

According to PWInsider on April 7, 2026, Punk’s promo followed a familiar pattern from his original “Pipebomb”—the company had an idea of what they wanted him to say, but once he got out there, he went in a completely different direction.

“For those asking about the CM Punk promo last night, PWInsiderElite.com has been told that it was very similar to the original Pipebomb promo, in that the company had a plan for what they expected Punk to say, but then he went out there and cut a different promo.”

That explains why the segment felt so wide-ranging. While Punk did go after Roman Reigns—which fits their WrestleMania match—he didn’t stop there. Recapping the promo, the report noted that multiple names and even the company itself caught shots during the rant.

“Punk, coming off extremely angry, took shots at Roman Reigns (which made sense for their match at WrestleMania in several weeks), but The Rock, Pat McAfee, Vince McMahon, and even TKO — which was referenced by name — also caught strays.”

Some of those comments were especially scathing. Punk mocked The Rock’s Hollywood status, took aim at McAfee with a nickname, and even referenced Vince McMahon in a way that tied back to past controversial angles.

“Punk referred to The Rock as a "former" Hollywood star and "bloated," knocked the company for its high ticket prices, and referred to McAfee as "MAGAfee." McMahon was referenced not by name, but as a "weird old man" who made Roman "eat dog food" (which may have been a euphemism for sh**).”

Despite how far the Second City Saint pushed things, there’s reportedly no immediate fallout backstage—but that doesn’t mean the promo came out of nowhere: “We have not heard of any fallout from the promo, but we are also told much of what Punk said mirrors backstage frustration among talent over the last several weeks.”

That detail might be the biggest takeaway. According to the report, several WWE talents have been frustrated with ticket pricing for WrestleMania, especially with seats still available and limited comp tickets being offered.

“We have heard from several talents who have expressed frustration with the fact that tickets are priced so high, that there are so many left for the top show of the year, and that while there are so many available seats, only two comp tickets are being granted to talent on the night they are performing.”

This changes everything about how that promo is being viewed. What looked like a passionate storyline segment may have been something much closer to reality — with Punk channeling actual locker room frustration in real time. And if that’s the case, the biggest question now isn’t just about what he said — it’s about how WWE responds moving forward.

Do you think CM Punk going off script makes his promos better, or is it risky for WWE to let things go that far on live TV? Drop your thoughts below and let us know.
