CM Punk is taking a break from the ring — and stepping into the world of romantic comedy. A new on-set photo confirms that Punk is currently filming his role for Netflix’s upcoming movie The Bodyguard, giving fans their first real update on his status during his WWE TV absence.

The image, which quickly spread online, shows Punk smiling in between takes while dressed in casual attire. It’s a clear sign that filming is in full swing for the project, and that Punk’s absence from WWE TV is more about Hollywood than kayfabe.

Punk is playing a character named “Doghouse,” who is a “physically intimidating member of the security detail” with loyalty and humor — a role that plays into his legit tough guy image while adding a dose of charm.

The movie stars Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) and Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) and is based on Katherine Center’s 2022 novel. Directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, the film follows a bodyguard (Meester) hired to protect a movie star (Padalecki) from a stalker, only for things to turn romantic when she agrees to pose as his girlfriend during a family holiday trip.

Punk was last seen on WWE TV at Survivor Series: WarGames, where a masked man scaled the cage, nailed him with a kick and a stomp, and escaped the same way he entered. Moments later, Bron Breakker speared Punk and scored the win for Team Heyman.

CM Punk may be off-screen for now, but that won’t last long since he’s set to defend his World Heavyweight Title against Bron Breakker on the January 5, 2026 episode of Monday Night Raw. Hollywood might be calling, but Punk still has a major score to settle in the ring.
