CM Punk is still very much keeping his eye on WWE’s future—and this weekend was no different.

According to Cory Hays of PWNexus and Bodyslam.net, the WWE RAW superstar was backstage at the NXT live event in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, July 19. Punk was in town for another commitment—serving as commentator for the Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) event the night before—and decided to stick around and support the next generation. In a post on Twitter, Hays confirmed:

“CM Punk was backstage at tonight’s NXT live event in Tampa. He was in town after doing commentary on the Cage Fury Fighting Championship (CFFC) show on Friday night and decided to stay in town and check out the NXT show.”

It’s not unusual for Punk to pop in at NXT. Since returning to WWE in November 2023, the former world champ has made multiple appearances on the NXT brand and has been seen frequently offering advice to young talent at the WWE Performance Center.

Punk’s presence continues to be felt backstage, where he’s reportedly been a go-to for feedback and mentoring. While he’s spending time helping shape NXT’s future, Punk’s focus remains locked in on his own career-defining moment. He’s set to challenge GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, taking place August 2 and 3 at MetLife Stadium.

Is CM Punk setting himself up to be a full-time player-coach in WWE—or is this just part of his long game heading into SummerSlam? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know if you think he’s got one more title run left in him.
