CM Punk is setting the record straight about a viral clip from WWE’s 2025 holiday tour—and he’s not here for the overanalyzing.

During a World Heavyweight Championship defense against Bronson Reed at a WWE live event, Punk pulled a harmless prank: he took off his t-shirt in the ring… only to reveal another t-shirt underneath. The moment caught fire online, especially since it came shortly after WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash took a shot at Punk for wrestling in a shirt on the December 22nd edition of Monday Night Raw.

Fans speculated whether it was a subtle jab back at Nash or a response to the online noise. But according to Punk, the real reason was a lot simpler.

Appearing on Notsam Wrestling Live!, Punk laughed off the controversy and explained it was just a rib to entertain his opponent.

“Yeah, and it’s not that deep. That was to pop the guy I was wrestling. Doesn’t go any deeper than that but, you know, somebody’s always gotta throw their two cents in and, ‘No, no, no, what he was doing was –’ no, no, no. I made dude laugh, and that’s what house shows are for,” Punk said.

He added that ribbing at live events is part of what keeps wrestling fun for him, even if some fans want to read too much into it.

“I’m like king of ribs on house shows. Last year at The Garden, I’m running out in a towel, soaking wet with a shower cap on. Come on… I’m trying to (have fun). Some people really wanna be miserable though. I’m trying not to be,” he joked.

Despite the online reaction, Punk remains focused. His most recent title defense came on the first-ever episode of WWE Raw on Netflix, where he successfully retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Bron Breakker.

The message is clear: Punk isn’t sweating the small stuff—he’s just trying to entertain, crack a few jokes, and keep things light between the ropes.

What did you think of Punk’s t-shirt fake-out? Was it just harmless fun, or do you think there’s more to it? Sound off in the comments and let us know.
