CM Punk is still going strong at 47—but his latest comments are a reminder of just how dangerous that journey has been.

While the current World Heavyweight Champion continues to perform at a high level decades into his career, Punk opened up about the physical toll of wrestling during an appearance on the Ross Tucker podcast—and one story in particular stands out.

When asked about the worst injuries he’s suffered in the ring, Punk didn’t hesitate—but he did acknowledge just how serious things have gotten over the years: “Well, let’s knock on wood here—let’s do one of those.”

He then revealed that the most severe injury he’s ever dealt with wasn’t a torn muscle or routine damage—it was something far more dangerous: “I mean, probably the worst one was a fractured skull. That was… that was pretty interesting.”

Punk went on to explain how it happened, describing a brutal in-ring collision that could have ended much differently: “My head hit another guy’s head, and we kind of sandwiched on the mat at the same time.” Even now, looking back on it, Punk admitted that the situation was far more serious than it may sound—and that the outcome could have been tragic.

“Yeah, that wasn’t fun. And it got pretty serious. We look back at it now and we all laugh, but I could have died—and it’s just funny now because I didn’t. Man, it would have stunk if I did.”

And that wasn’t the only damage he’s dealt with. Punk made it clear that over the course of nearly three decades, his body has taken repeated hits in multiple ways: “You name it, I’ve probably done it. I’ve torn both triceps.”

He then broke down one of those injuries in detail, explaining how quickly things can go wrong inside the ring: “Yeah. The last one—I got DDT’d, and when I hit the mat, the thing just—bang—popped.”

According to Punk, that kind of injury isn’t just bad luck—it’s the result of years of wear and tear building up over time: “Probably a lot of wear and tear on those elbows though, you know what I mean?”

Punk’s experience is a reminder that even at the top of WWE, and even as a champion, he is dealing with the long-term effects of a career that has pushed his body to the limit. He may still call himself the “Best in the World,” but stories like this show exactly what it takes to stay there—and how close things have come to going very wrong along the way.
