CM Punk has faced off against the best pro wrestlers that the wrestling world has to offer, and that includes Jeff Hardy. Earlier this year, Jeff Hardy stated that he wanted to retire the Second City Saint and now Punk has responded to what Hardy had to say in the most sarcastic way possible.
During a conversation at the HOG Live for the Moment event, Jeff Hardy made it clear he wanted to do a really good final match in WWE and then get into the Hall of Fame. He specifically mentioned that he wanted to retire CM Punk.
“Looking back at my career now, the history is just a glimpse, like a blink of an eye, when you achieve so much and then you’re here at this point, older in life. So it’d really be special to have a killer match, maybe make CM Punk retire, and then go into the Hall of Fame.”
While speaking to Inside the Ropes, CM Punk was asked about Jeff Hardy wanting to retire him. The Second City Saint had a very sarcastic response, as he stated that while Hardy might have that goal, it’s as unlikely as him suddenly being able to fly, saying, “He would like to retire me? Alright, I would like to be able to fly. I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon.”
When asked about the possibility of facing Hardy again, Punk acknowledged that many things would need to be worked out first. He admitted he doesn’t know how many years he has left in wrestling but believes in giving people multiple chances. When it comes to facing Hardy again, Punk kept it open-ended, saying they would have to wait and see what happens.
“I think there’s got to be a lot of bridges to be crossed. You know, like, I don’t know how many years I have left. And I’m all for giving people second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth chances.
There’s a lot of experiences that I didn’t enjoy so much. You know, we don’t gotta get into it, but it’s… you know. I just—I root for people to be free of whatever demons possess them. So, if he’s coming back here, great. Let’s see what happen.”
Whether this dream match happens or not, the history between CM Punk and Jeff Hardy remains legendary. However, considering Punk’s sarcastic response to Hardy’s challenge, fans might want to keep their expectations in check.
