CM Punk has now revealed where things stand with John Cena following Night of Champions.
While speaking to Sports Today, CM Punk talked about his big match with John Cena at Night of Champions and said it was a very important moment for him; personally, professionally, and emotionally.
Punk was asked if the feud with Cena was really over and Punk confirmed that it really was over. He explained that John Cena has earned the right to do whatever he wants in his career now.
Punk remembered seeing Cena about a year ago when Cena announced he was retiring and had a set number of matches left. Punk told him he wanted to be involved in some way, whether it was as a commentator, a referee, or even just driving him to the shows.
Punk said he would do anything to be part of Cena’s journey because Cena has been such a big part of his own. CM Punk said the rivalry between them had a clear beginning, middle, and now an end and that’s just how life works.
“Yeah, that was a really important night for me—personally, professionally, and emotionally.
Yeah, that’s it [feud is over]. You know, John, to me, has written his own ticket. He can do whatever he wants. I actually told him about a year ago, when I saw him for the first time in a while—he announced in Toronto he was going to retire and had a set number of matches he planned to do—I grabbed him and said, ‘Hey, I don’t know if I figure into your plans, whatever you want to do obviously, but man, I’m your huckleberry.’
Like, selfishly, I want to be a part of it. If you want me on commentary for one of your matches, if you want me to be a referee, I’ll drive you to the shows, buddy. Whatever it takes to be a small part of your story, because you’ve been such a big part of mine.
And yeah, that was it. There’s something really romantic and poetic about it. The John Cena and Punk rivalry—it has a beginning, a middle, and now an end. And that’s life.”
John Cena defeated CM Punk at Night of Champions thanks to interference from Seth Rollins and now it’s clear Punk and Cena’s feud has truly come to an end and they won’t continue in the future.
What do you think about the end of the John Cena vs. CM Punk rivalry? Should they have had one final clean match, or was this the perfect sendoff? Sound off in the comments.
