CM Punk isn’t just one of the best talkers in wrestling—he lives and breathes the art of the promo 24/7. And now, he’s letting fans in on how he keeps delivering those spine-tingling moments on the mic.

Speaking to You Better, You Bet ahead of his WrestleMania 42 main event against Roman Reigns, Punk opened up about the way he approaches promos—and it’s not something he turns on and off. It’s a lifestyle.

“I’m constantly thinking, you know, I can’t shut my brain off. So, I’m constantly cutting promos. A lot of people on the outside might think that I’m just talking to myself. Uh, and in a way I am, but it’s really—it’s constant, you know.”

Punk doesn’t rely on flashy language or overcomplicated angles. His creative process is rooted in human emotion—and keeping things stripped down and real.

“The creative process to me, I can kind of distill it down to: simple is better. And draw on real-life situations and human emotions that, you know, are going to pull on people’s heartstrings.”

That personal edge is what Punk believes sets him apart—and what makes storylines click. He explained that while classic good vs. evil storytelling has its place, the current dynamic with Roman Reigns exists beyond that.

“When it comes to me and Roman, I think we kind of transcend that a little bit… Different crowds are going to cheer or boo more or less based on whatever. But all you know is, it’s going to be loud and electric and good.”

CM Punk’s creative process is nonstop. Even when he’s walking through airports or stuck in traffic, the promos are still playing in his head. It’s not just practice—it’s who he is. And with WrestleMania around the corner, Punk’s mind is clearly locked in. While Reigns may be focused on the Tribal Chief legacy, Punk is sharpening every word—and planning to win the war before the bell even rings.

Do you think Punk’s stripped-down, emotional approach is what makes him the best promo in wrestling today? Or do you prefer the over-the-top style of old-school legends? Drop your take in the comments below.
