CM Punk is back in WWE and, by his own words, it’s exactly what he wanted.
Appearing on ESPN’s First Take, Punk was asked whether his return has lived up to the hype. He didn’t hesitate to give credit to the company for delivering the experience he hoped for:
“For me, yeah, I think it’s been everything that I ever thought WWE could and should be — behind the scenes and in front of the camera. That’s a better question you should ask fans and stuff like that. Because, ultimately, they’re my boss, they’re our bosses.”
Punk shocked the wrestling world when he came back to WWE in November 2023 after nearly a decade away. His short but chaotic run in AEW ended in September of that year when his contract was terminated. Since then, WWE has slotted him right into top feuds — first with Drew McIntyre, and now with Seth Rollins.
Punk told First Take that his programs have already delivered big moments, even if Rollins remains a thorn in his side:
“I think the fans could agree I did some pretty spectacular stuff with Drew McIntyre. And, unfortunately, I’m currently still — thorn in my side Seth Rollins — involved in that whole vortex. But we’re trying to move on from that, we’re trying to get past that.”
At SummerSlam, Punk briefly captured the World Heavyweight Championship before Rollins immediately snatched it back. The two will clash again at WWE Clash in Paris on August 31, where Rollins defends the title in a fatal four-way against Punk, LA Knight, and Jey Uso.
Beyond his current feud, Punk is also hyped for WWE’s new partnership with ESPN. The first premium live event under the deal kicks off next month.
“I’m really excited. You know, we had a great relationship with Peacock, that’s going to continue in the form of Saturday Night’s Main Event. But anytime you can rub elbows and be on the same platforms like with ESPN, Netflix, stuff like that — those are just giant, household, you know, synonymous brand names. Synonymous with excellence, like CM Punk, like WWE. So I think it’s going to be a great partnership. Looking forward to it.”
From clashing with Rollins to pushing WWE into a new broadcast era, Punk seems locked in and ready for the next chapter.
