CM Punk isn’t letting Drew McIntyre’s latest jab slide, and he made that clear when addressing the comments head-on. After McIntyre took aim at Punk for landing the WWE 2K26 cover—going as far as calling him a “junkie” and questioning how he secured the spot—the current champion responded with a mix of dismissal and sharp personal shots.
During a recent interview with TalkSPORT, Punk framed the criticism as something that comes with being on top, making it clear he sees McIntyre’s comments as more about relevance than reality.
“You know, it’s what everybody does. They got to talk about the cover athlete. They got to talk about the champ to stay relevant, to say anything interesting.”
Punk didn’t stop there. He quickly turned the focus back on McIntyre, pointing out that his rival hasn’t reached the same milestone, suggesting jealousy is at play.
“I mean, has Drew ever been on the cover? Okay, so maybe there’s a little bit of jealousy. There’s a little bit of envy there, you know? I don’t know what else to say beyond that.”
From there, Punk leaned into their violent history, referencing their Hell in a Cell clash and using it to take another swipe at McIntyre’s star power.
“If Drew was on the cover, we could do the 15 staples on the top of his head that I put in his head in Hell in the Cell. Maybe that’ll sell covers. I don’t know.”
He capped things off with a final dig, questioning whether McIntyre could even draw support from his own backyard.
“I don’t even think people in Scotland would buy it if Drew was on the cover. You know, he’s a Rangers fan. Yeah, says enough, right?”
The back-and-forth adds more fuel to an already heated rivalry between Punk and McIntyre, with both continuing to take shots well outside the ring. With WrestleMania season approaching, this kind of talk only raises the stakes between two of WWE’s biggest names.
Punk clearly isn’t backing down, and if anything, he’s leaning into the controversy while keeping his focus on staying at the top of the company.
