CM Punk is finally addressing the criticism coming from WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash — and he’s making it clear the entire situation has been blown way out of proportion.
After Nash questioned Punk’s presentation as a world champion and took repeated shots at his wardrobe and physique, Punk responded directly and downplayed the drama. While speaking publicly about the situation, Punk clarified that the viral shirt moment fans latched onto was never meant as some statement or rebuttal.
“I never wrestled in a shirt. So I didn’t really understand what the criticism was,” Punk said.
He explained that the moment at a recent WWE house show — where he removed one shirt only to reveal another underneath — was simply a joke meant to make his opponent laugh.
“That was to pop the guy I was wrestling. Doesn’t go any deeper than that. I made dude laugh, and that’s what house shows are for. I’m trying to (have fun). Some people really wanna be miserable though. I’m trying not to be.”
Punk’s response reframed the entire situation as locker room humor rather than some public back-and-forth. He leaned into the idea that non-televised events are about morale, connection, and personality — not rigid image expectations.
Those comments came after Nash spent time on the January 12 episode of Kliq This unloading on Punk over his appearance, specifically referencing Punk wearing a jacket during his entrance on the January 5 episode of Raw.
“I just don’t understand why Phil had to come down with a jacket on. I mean, s**, go to a f*****ing gym, Phil,”* Nash said.
Nash didn’t stop there. He continued mocking Punk’s clothing choices and claimed the t-shirt moment proved his point about Punk hiding his physique.
“It’s that shirt where you ask for a shirt and the merchandise guy gives you the one that isn’t selling for 35 bucks up in tier three,” Nash said.
He also revisited their 2011 feud, noting that Punk had once mocked his age and body during promos — but Nash wasn’t allowed to respond at the time. Now, with Punk approaching 48, Nash said Punk had become what he calls an “NDT” case.
“He’s already fallen victim to the NDT shirt,” Nash said, explaining that NDT stands for “No Definition T-shirt.”
Despite the shots, Punk’s response shows he isn’t interested in escalating things. If anything, he sounds confident, relaxed, and comfortable enough in his role to laugh off the criticism rather than engage in a war of words.
